Entering a World of Network Connected Devices

As you may have seen, last week we announced that we’ve added hosted HTML5 services to our managed backend. The decision to add this functionality wasn’t just to build a more flexible platform for developers – it is the next necessary step in creating a world of network connected devices.

In the not-too-distant future, there will be applications running on more than just computers and smartphones. The technologies developed up to this point are merely stepping-stones that are taking us to a world where every electronic device will be connected to the Internet. This has already proven to be more fact than fiction as tablets, televisions and even thermostats are entering the market with network access. And we assure you that this is just the beginning.

The foundation of this new world has already been set as the cost of connectivity has decreased over the past several years and accessibility to the Internet has increased across the globe – providing affordable and ubiquitous connectivity for electronic devices. In addition, cloud computing and HTML5 have matured to a point where they are now the building blocks for developing cross-platform applications.

StackMob is the first platform to offer this functionality and the only platform specifically designed to achieve this vision.

If you are interested in learning about our vision in more detail, please download our white paper entitled, “Entering a World of Network Connected Devices”. In the paper, we discuss the history of network connected devices, highlight the enabling trends and technologies, and lay the roadmap for developers who want to build towards a world of network connected devices.
